Dromara CC Club
League - Round 9 Road Race - Annahilt Circuit 28 May 2009 A large gathering of 45 riders showed up on Thursday 28 May 2009 to Annahilt crossroads looking to take part in the 9th round of the Dromara club league. The Annahilt circuit is a triangle based on the Ballynahinch Road, Ballycreen Road and Glebe Road with the finish line on the Glebe Road. The majority of the riders had to face 3 laps of the 8 mile course and thankfully they got a great evening to do so, warm, sunny with little wind. The riders were split into 5 starting groups with time handicaps. Winner on the night was Darren Weir (Dromara CC), who won on this circuit both times last season. Behind Darren in the bunch sprint was vet Ronnie Smyth followed by guests Aaron Baines and Peter Lilley. Davy Robb was unlucky to clip the wheel in front of his on the first lap and fell leaving him with road rash. Stopping for Davy was Maeve Cahill and Therese Smyth. Martin brought Davy back to the start/finish line, patched him up but then Davy insisted on riding on home. Also unlucky tonight was Gary Gibson who again suffered a puncture. Special mention to Damien McDonald who just got out of hosital at 5pm having just had surgery cancelled at 4pm and came straight to the race. Dedication
