Dromara CC Club
League - Round 22 10 mile TT - Lurgan Road, Dromore (map) 27 August 2009 Dromara Cycling Club held their last 10 mile time trial of their 2009 league at the Lurgan Road, Dromore which was a change from their planned circuit at Annahilt. With blustery conditions all present were glad the rain stayed away to leave a bright evening. The event got underway promptly at 7 pm with the junior riders Connor Mallon, Christopher Weir and Zak Hanna setting off first along the Lurgan Road separated by only 30 seconds each. Another 30 seconds behind these three was a visitor to the club Laura Casey. The 30 second gaps continued on down the line for 17 of the 30 competitors in order to make maximum use of the available light. After 9 minutes the gaps returned to the normal 1 minute with the faster men going off last. Final man away was 1st cat rider David McKnight who has been setting some great times recently and tonight was no exception with David finishing in 23 minutes and 27 seconds on a undulating course with challenging wind conditions. Less than 20 seconds behind David was veteran rider Ronnie Smyth who, with his new time trial bike, had hoped to close the gap further on David. Over 30 seconds behind Ronnie was race ace Darren Weir. Setting a superb time was Ross Galway who finished fourth fastest just under 26 minutes. Behind Ross was the first of the Magowan brothers, Gavin, who was only one second slower than Ross but still under 26 minutes. Damien McDonald, our current league leader, was sixth fastest on the night with the other Magowan brother Chris in 7th place. As per all of our time trials we have time handicaps and these are applied after the event to see who has improved on his/her average time. With a repeat from last week's 10 mile time trial it was our youngest rider on the night Connor Mallon who finished top of the time adjusted table. Connor has consistently improved over the course of the year shaving more than 5 minutes off his 10 mile time trial. Behind Connor was one of our other youth riders, Christopher Weir who was also second this time last week. Christopher has also steadily improved over the season. In third place in the adjusted table was Kevin McDonald. Looking further down the finishers it was great to see Mary Hunter competing in her first 10 mile time trial with the club. Many thanks to the timekeepers and marshals for doing a great job. 10 mile time trial
