Dromara CC Club League - Round 2
2 up TT - Dundrum Road, Dromara
9 April 2009

A cool and blustery evening greeted the 34 riders gathered for the 2-up 10 mile time-trail on the Dundrum Road in Dromara.  Among the riders were those who had just returned from a week of cycling in Mallorca and none of them looked pleased to be standing around in the cold.  Trevor and Davy were kept busy sorting out the starting order with the first of the "pairs" getting away shortly after 7 o'clock.  This was followed by 16 other sets of riders however Noel Gibson had to go it alone as his brother Gary got a puncture before setting off.  The Dundrum Road had been recently resurfaced but this did not help much as the 20 mph windy conditions made sure that there were very few personal best times set.

The fastest on the night was the pairing of John Ruddell (Ards CC) and Dromara's Paul Smyth.  These two had set the fastest time the previous week.  Well done to both of them.  Setting the same time on the night was Marcus Magowan who arrived back on his own when his pairing, Neill Currie, punctured out on the course.  Noel Gibson made a great solo effort to finish second on the night.  Only seven seconds slower than Noel was the much improved pairing of brothers Alan and Dennis McMullan.  Behind the McMullan brothers were Trail Quest teammates Stephen Heasley and Niall Cochrane who set an excellent time.  Only six seconds slower on the night were Ards CC's Dessie McIlwrath and newcomer to Dromara David McClurg.  David was marshalling the week before but that did not seem to slow him down this week.  Well done to all the riders for turning up and participating enthusiastically especially given the poor weather.  Thankfully it didn't rain!
