Dromara CC Club
League - Round 1 2 up TT - Downpatrick Road 2 April 2009 A great gathering of thirty riders turned up tonight for the start of the Dromara Cycling Club's Club League 2009, this given that a significant number of the regular participants were in training in Mallorca for the week. This was the first of three events for a trophy sponsored by Versatile Windows NI. The format of the first event was a two rider ("Two Up") 10 mile time trial along the Downpatrick Road just outside Ballynahinch. The start line was opposite the Millbrook Lodge who had kindly allowed us to park our cars in their car park. The fastest on the night was the pairing of John Ruddell (Ards CC) and Dromara's Paul Smyth. These two had combined last year to compete in a tandem race in which they had unfortunately crashed. The two finished two seconds ahead of Neill Curry and Marcus Magowan who were themselves only 15 seconds ahead of the solo strong rider Paul McMinn, currently with Curran Racing. Behind Paul came the brothers Gibson and just behind them came new pairing Ross Galway and Phil O'Neill. Behind Ross and Phil came the Trail Quest teammates Stephen Heasley and Niall Cochrane (Lost and Bewildered), followed by brothers Dennis and Alan McMullan. New to the club, and giving time trials a go for the first time were brothers Kevin and Damian McDonald. Well done to all the competitors.
