Dromara CC Club League Round 21 Hill climb - Begney Hill Road, Dromara |
|
18 September 2008 The final round of the 2008 Dromara Cycling Club, club league took place tonight at Begney Hill Road in Dromara. This event involved a short, sharp burst of sprint up the 0.21 mile climb up to the top of the first rise of the hill. There was a great turn out of 29 riders tonight all eager to challenge this hill. We were joined by several visitors including regulars Cathal and Fergus from the Pheonix Cycling Club, Stevie Baines from East Antrim and Stephen Heasley from La Lanterne Rouge. Nigel and Trevor were timekeepers tonight and with such a large gathering the event's administration took a bit of time and it was only after 7:15 pm that the riders. Nigel co-ordinated the riders at the bottom of the hill and Trevor at the top with the stop watches. Sadly the weather deteriorated and the light faded very quickly but by 7:45 it was over. The visiting Phoenix riders proved to be the quickest tonight taking first and second spots. Looking down the list we can see that young Aaron Baines set an excellent time and from our own club both Gary Gibson and Paul Jess set good times proving this short, sharp event to be one of their strong points. Many thanks to the timekeepers and to all the riders for coming down tonight.
