So what really happened to summer…you know the sun, the heat and the BBQ’s. No such luck on a night that saw the clouds move in and the temperatures drop so low that some brought their winter gear. Thankfully this weather change didn’t put off the many marshals that made the effort to stand out there making it a very safe race. So many many thanks to the awesome team of marshals listed below:
Timekeepers: Lisa and Emma
Chief marshal: Colin R
Photography: Young Mr J Gibson.
Corner 1: Linda, Eddie, Neil F, Martin M, Wannita B
Corner 2: Andrew F, Paul G, Colin McG, Graeme D, Raymund M

The first challenge as always is sorting out the groups which caused a few issues as group 1 & 2 were put together leaving group 3 or should I say now group 2 a little short in numbers. The Scratch fraternity were up to their old tricks of sweet talking anybody that would listen to join them. Alas young Matthew Gibson succumbed and decided to try out Scratch – a great effort made but also a lesson learnt I think. This week we had quite a few visitors from the West Down Wheelers who added to the numbers meaning the handicap fairies were left trying to guess who would go well. Having spoken to the Handicap fairies agent I can quote him by saying he thought “Scratch needed to cycle faster and Group 1 needed to remove a few charlatans up a group” Dromara CC had no comment to make.
Group 1 managed to pull in 10 members and shot off on the first lap taking no time to get everyone organised like a well oiled machine with their first lap taking 23mins they were on a mission. Group 2 started with two youngsters and 4 others who should probably know better – the two youngsters hatching a plan of catching everyone by lap 2 was underway but neglected to tell the rest of us. Scratch group had 9 members and they shot off like always doing just over 20mins for the first lap and taking almost 2 min chunk out of the gap to the next group. Alas with the handicap against them they wouldn’t catch anyone with Nathan leading them over the line.
Group 2 started with 6 but the two youngsters drove on and dispatched 2 riders on the hills on the first lap but even with some super riding fro the pair it was not enough to catch the front group but good enough to hold off scratch. Group 1 unknowing to them now had a gap that would never be bridged leaving the race up the final hill to decide who would win. Davy B has shown he has great skills on the MTB and gave it an almighty kick up the last climb but was unable to shake Kevin Walker or David Henderson of his wheel who managed to sprint round him on the finishing straight with Kevin taking the win.
Again many thanks to all that turned up and marshalled to make this a very enjoyable night of racing – I have sent the handicap fairies back to the drawing board for the next race and told them to stop hanging out with Group 1 to avoid any Fifa type scandals. Final results are below and photos can be found on facebook and on flickr you can find the same photos as well as the finish video.
